More Cash for Pete Cashmore (Mashable CEO)

Great Bloomberg Venture interview below with Pete Cashmore (CEO of Mashable). I recently saw Pete in Forbes’s 30 under 30 which states “with 20 million monthly unique visitors, [Mashable] is almost as large as Huffington Post was when AOL bought it for $315 Million last year”

Mashable is:

-One of the most profitable blogs on the internet
-The second most linked to blog only after the Huffington Post
-Top 10 Blog within a year and half after launching

Cashmore describes his background, the rise of Mashable’s vast audience, and the site’s monetization.

I posted Steve Jobs graduation speech previously, which you can see HERE. I believe this video below captures the reasons for his immensely successful career.

2011′s Top Tech Investors

I wanted to share this great cover article from FORBES recently which lists 2011′s top tech investors. Venture Capitalists like Peter Thiel, Michael Moritz and Mike Maples (who is interviewed below) are mentioned among others. Each profile lists their background and successful investments. It is good to see that most of these investors are stationed in my home town of Menlo Park!

In the video below, Maples discusses the early pitfall he had with his investment in Odeo (shortly before Itunes began giving free pod-casting), but decided to “let his money ride” and invest with the same entrepreneur on a subsequent deal, which allowed him to invest in Twitter, and eventually Digg.

Need Shoes? Nick Swinmurn and Zappos.com

Nick Swinmurn (founder of Zappos.com) describes his rise to wealth, and how he virtually stumbled upon an online shoe business, that generates $800m in revenue, while trying to find specific shoes to purchase. After noticing he couldn’t find the specific shoes he was looking for, Nick stopped looking, and instead created a way for them to be found, with his company Zappos.com

This video is very organized and transitions from him describing his initial idea to monetizing his site and dealing with venture capital firms (and struck it big with Venture Frogs). Check out the video on BBC here
